Los Angeles, CA – On Thursday, January 13, 2022 the Department of Justice announced that they would be filing federal charges against the gang members arrested for the murder of LAPD Officer Fernando Arroyos. This came largely as a part of conversations held with Sheriff Alex Villanueva who expressed grave concerns as to whether the prosecution of a murder of a law enforcement officer by the LA County District Attorney’s Office would rise to the depravity of the crime.
Recall Gascon Now supports this action taken to bring the federal charges and stresses that for justice to administered in Los Angeles County it is requiring federal intervention as a result of Gascon failing to follow the law. His policies undermine the statutes passed by the People and the legislature and are failing to keep residents safe.
Harriette Reid, co-chair for Recall Gascon Now offered the following statement, “Failing to ensure that gang related enhancement charges are filed threatens the safety of all Angelenos, and particularly our law enforcement officers who are having a target placed on their backs by gang members that now face no fear of special enhancement charges being filed against them.”
Recently, Recall Gascon Now has launched an initiative to #ProtectTheKids with a component drawing attention to the heightened risks of gang activity on school campuses and the concerns for kids when juvenile offenders do not face prosecution.
